More than 40 Afro-Argentine organizations and Afro-descendant communities will march for the first time on November 8, commemorating the National Day of Afro-Argentines and Afro Culture, enacted by law 10 years ago. The first march of Afro-Argentine, Afro-descendant, African, Afro-diasporic, Pan-Africanist and Afro-based religions and organizations will depart next Wednesday at 4 p.m. from Plaza de Mayo to the Plaza de los Dos Congresos, where they will close with an artistic-cultural festival and reading a document, prepared by the various organizations. The main slogan of the march is "Enough of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, hate speech and other related forms of intolerance." This date, 8N, is commemorated every year since 2013 when it was established by Law 26,852, to honor the figure of María Remedios Del Valle, known as "Mother of the Homeland", who died on November 8, 1847. The Afro-descendant woman was an important military combatant who had a key role in Argentine history, for which Manuel Belgrano, General of the Northern Army, conferred on her the title of "Captain of the Army" for her courage and courage in the field of battle during the Wars of Independence, after the formation of the first national government. They also march "for an anti-racist law; preservation of ancestral territories and cultural heritage; job quotas and Afro political representation; and respect for Afro-based religions." In turn, they demand a "national plan against racism, racial discrimination and xenophobia; the creation of the National Institute of Afro-Argentine, Afro-descendant and African Affairs (Inafro); and the declaration of November 8 as a national holiday." From the organizing commission, they told Télam that the march "is being articulated with all the provinces of the country, since the call is federal and the event will be replicated in different places in the national territory" and they praised the nature "open to the entire community." of the call.
