The Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohamed Shtayé, asked the Norwegian authorities this Thursday to put pressure in international forums to achieve a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as well as the end of the attacks by Israeli forces and settlers on the population of the West Bank. Shtayé had a telephone conversation with the Chancellor of Norway, Espen Barth Eide, to whom he conveyed the need to put an end to the attacks to ensure that humanitarian aid can be delivered correctly and the wounded are cared for in the best possible way, according to the Europa Press news agency. Additionally, he called on Norway, as sponsor of the International Aid Committee for the Palestinian People, to "play a role in the ceasefire and lead an international aid effort" for the Gaza Strip. He also described the aggressions against the West Bank, represented in "daily raids, including murders and arrests, raising barriers, separating areas from each other and the terror of the settlers, protected by the occupation army." And he stressed the need to work on a political solution to end the conflict through a "comprehensive and fair solution to the Palestinian issue, based on international legitimacy and United Nations resolutions."
