The Israeli Army indicated this Sunday that 126 people were taken hostage by Hamas in its attacks in Israel and that some of them were found dead by soldiers in raids in the Gaza Strip. At first, Israeli authorities handled the figure of 150 Israelis and foreigners captured by the Islamist movement that rules Gaza during its bloody incursion into Israel on October 7. The balance, which is not definitive, was revised downwards after the discovery of bodies in southern Israel, authorities explained. Israeli Army spokesman Richard Hecht said the figure of 126 hostages had been "confirmed" and that soldiers found the bodies of some of them during their raids on the Palestinian enclave, the AFP news agency reported. The Army did not provide more information. Hamas claimed that 22 hostages had been killed in the Israeli bombings. The movement threatened to kill the hostages if Israel continued bombing civilian targets without warning. According to Hecht, 286 Israeli soldiers were killed in the operations launched since the Hamas offensive. More than 1,300 people died in Israel during the land, sea and air incursion of the Palestinian movement, according to the latest Army report released this Sunday. Israel responded with deadly bombings of the Gaza Strip, killing more than 2,300 people, including more than 700 children, according to local authorities.
