Ten people, mostly of Chilean nationality, were arrested accused of being part of a criminal gang dedicated to the theft of vans in the city of Buenos Aires and then crossing them to Paraguay and selling them with apocryphal documentation, and that they managed to seize under this modality 16 Nissan Frontier in the span of a month, police sources reported.

The arrests were carried out by personnel from the Image Extraction and Analysis Division and the Automotive and Auto Parts Theft Division of the City Police, after a three-month investigation, in which they used information provided by readers of patents and the analysis of the cameras of the Urban Monitoring Center (CMU) to reconstruct the routes used by the gang.

In this regard, the sources maintained that during the investigation more than 2,200 security cameras were surveyed.

This analysis allowed the investigators to establish that, in a period of one month, the gang had stolen 16 Nissan Frontier vans in different neighborhoods of the city of Buenos Aires, always in the early morning hours, and with a methodology similar to that used in Chile during 2022.

According to the spokespersons, the sources explained that the gang chose to cross into Argentina and begin operating in the country after being discovered by the Chilean police authorities.

In addition, they explained that the criminals were specifically looking for this model of truck since "they have a very easy alarm vulnerability system."
